Develop Your Own International Internship
Each summer many students do international internships that they secure through their own research, their personal contacts, and through formal internship programs offered by organizations and companies.Students often find a summer position by directly contacting an organization and expressing their interest in an internship. Students applying for non-paid internships can apply for summer funding through the Universal Application Form. There are many resources to help you find the internship that is right for you. Resources on the MCGI Web site
Resources in the MCGI Lounge
- Resource materials with advice on finding an international internship; McCulloch Center International Internship Library.
- Internship evaluation forms, organized by continent, will give you information on how students secured their internship, background on the organization they worked with, and the nature of their day-to-day duties.
LifeNet Contact alumnae who work in your targeted field/geographic area and have agreed to be “alumnae advisors” for internship search strategies. LifeNet can connect you to alumnae who may have information on organizations in your target field that offer internships. Even if the alumna is not working in the country you want to work in, she may know of organizations in that country interested in hosting an intern.
Your Personal Network Think about the people you know—parents, friends, friends of friends, parents of friends, past employers, or others in your network who may help you identify prospective internship sites. Keep in mind that some students have found international internships through the parents of their friends at MHC.
