Develop Your Own International Internship

Each summer many MHC students develop an international internship through their personal connections and/or through research on the internet.  Students applying for non-paid internships can apply for summer funding through the Universal Application Form.  We encourage you to explore the following resources as a first step in identifying organizations that may offer you a summer placement abroad.
Online Resources

Resources in the McCulloch Center Lounge
Come to the McCulloch Center in Porter Hall to read evaluations from previous students. Internship evaluations, organized by continent, will give you information on how students secured their internship, background on the organization they worked with, and the nature of their day-to-day duties.  We also have printed resource materials with advice on finding an international internship.

LifeNet
Contact alumnae who work in your targeted field/geographic area and have agreed to be “alumnae advisors” for internship search strategies. LifeNet can connect you to alumnae who may have information on organizations in your target field that offer internships. Even if the alumna is not working in the country you want to work in, she may know of organizations in that country interested in hosting an intern.

Your Personal Networks
Think about the people you know—parents, friends, friends of friends, parents of friends, past employers, or others in your network who may help you identify prospective internship sites.  Keep in mind that some students have found international internships through the parents of their friends at MHC.
