Dieu Minh Nguyen's Profile
Dieu Minh Nguyen, ‘09 Hanoi, Vietnam
Dieu Minh Nguyen is a double major in Economics and Politics who spent a summer interning at Diguang Electronics in Shenzhen, China.
The internship has changed me in many different ways, especially with my Chinese having improved tremendously – because of the time I spent in China, I was able to skip a year of Chinese on my return to Mount Holyoke and move to the next level!
When did you go: Summer before my sophomore year (Summer 2006).
Why did you intern abroad: I wanted to have a productive summer with exposure to a new culture and the working experience in another country. I have always been fascinated by China. The internship, apart from fitting in with my academic and future career interests, gave me a chance to improve my Chinese and fulfilled my dream of living in China.
What language did you speak: English and Mandarin, since I had taken a year of Chinese at Mount Holyoke.
What did you do: I translated and edited documents in Chinese and English, taught English to employees, and participated in an international exhibition where the company and its products were showcased. What next: Although I still have two more years at Mount Holyoke, the internship confirmed to me that East Asia is where I want to be after graduation. I’m now in the process of finding an internship for summer 2007.
