Emma Kwaa ‘08 Accra, Ghana
Emma Kwaa is an Economics major and Psychology minor who had a summer internship at the International Institute for Women in Engineering, France.
The conference was for 60 participants from all over the world. It was a great international experience because I had the chance to interact with them. The CGI internship was the best international experience I could have had within that short period of time.
When: Summer between sophomore year and junior year.
Why an international internship:. At the time I applied for the internship, I was a double major and had taken only a few courses in French. I didn’t have time to study abroad, but this internship presented an opportunity for me to practice my French. Another reason was that I hadn’t traveled abroad before (except for my stay at Mount Holyoke).
What language did you speak: English and French
What did you do: The internship was about organizing a conference for the institute. My duties included facilitating the logistical aspects of the conference and leading a team of 4 interns to organize the workshops.
What next: This summer I will be working with Goldman Sachs as an intern in their HR division. I have also decided to be stick to just one major, so that I could continue taking classes in French.
