Tokyo Woman's Christian University (TWCU) has a long tradition of promoting international exchange. TWCU is delighted to continue offering this summer internship for a fifth year to a MHC student. It is a unique and high-profile opportunity, ideal for a high-energy student with a strong work ethic, excellent people skills, and a keen interest in cross-cultural communication. The intern will be much like an ambassador of her culture(s) and language(s) to the local students.

The intern will focus on two main responsibilities: one is to participate in the activities and projects of the English Island under the supervision of the professor who manages the Island. The functions of the Island include:

  • Encouraging students to express themselves in English
  • Enabling students to gain confidence in conveying and communicating their ideas clearly and persuasively in English
  • Motivating students to write prose that combines in-depth thought and analysis with ease of understanding

The function of the Island is not to fix the errors of students, but to show them these errors and help them to learn to fix them on their own. The second responsibility of the intern will be to work with the head of the English Department to visit English language classes and communicate as a native speaker with the students. In addition, the intern should be creative with initiating group conversation sessions, individual appointment sessions, video viewing sessions, discussion sessions, workshops on effective speaking and writing, etc.

Students who are not native speakers of an East Asian language are strongly encouraged to apply.

To apply, submit the Universal Application Form by February 27, 2009.
