MercyCorps is a non-profit organization that aims to alleviate suffering, poverty, and oppression in the world. Currently, the organization works in 35 different countries, focusing on emergency relief services, economic development, and civil society initiatives. The headquarters office in Portland has reserved one internship position for an MHC student through the MHC International Internship Program.
The intern will need skills in creative thinking, writing, editing, research, and communication. She needs to be a team player, flexible and willing to work on real world projects that come up unpredictably. She will likely work on the Global Envision website. Global Envision is a MercyCorps web initiative that acts as a clearing house of information, helping to educate people on current issues and how to effectively get involved. The intern will research current issues, write short articles, edit and post content, research blog topics, and use her creativity to market and develop the site further.
The intern may also be assigned to one of the office's country or regional desks to help edit country fact sheets, research current regional issues, or write proposals. She must be ready to be assigned to unexpected projects as they come up. Typical projects involve conflict management, global health, etc.
