Directed by Mount Holyoke alumna Kavita Ramdas, the Global Fund for Women (GFW) is an international grantmaking foundation that supports groups working to advance the human rights of women and girls. They work in partnership with groups addressing issues that include but are not limited to: Building Peace & Ending Gender-Based Violence; Advancing Health and Sexual & Reproductive Rights; Expanding Civic & Political Participation; Ensuring Economic & Environmental Justice; Increasing Access to Education; and Fostering Social Change Philanthropy. Since its inception in 1987, the Global Fund has granted over $61 million to 3,500 women's groups in 167 countries.
GFW will place one MHC student to serve as a Program Intern. The intern will “float” among all regional teams and assist with GFW grantee and advisor outreach; assess regional priorities; enter data on current/prospective grantees; draft written correspondences to grantees; respond to inquiries via phone, email, and snail mail; draft summarized purpose statements of grantee activities; and provide routine clerical support.
The intern will also support the Development team by researching projects related to the grantwriting process and fundraising techniques; inputting data into Filemaker Pro database; faxing, filing and helping with mailings; assisting in updating contact information with peer organizations and donors, and responding to inquiries for information on GFW.
The intern should be informed and passionate about women’s rights, have a strong sense of world geography, and be prepared for a fast-paced work environment. This is an outstanding opportunity for a student with a serious interest in a career in not-for-profit work.
