Faculty Recommendation

  * Required fields

We require a faculty recommendation for students applying to Mount Holyoke programs and exchanges abroad, and for all students applying for Laurel Fellowships (financial aid).  Financial aid at Mount Holyoke does not travel automatically for study abroad; if you are writing on behalf of a student who is applying for a Laurel Fellowship, please review the Laurel Fellowship criteria.

Student’s Name:

Student’s Class: *

We ask students to articulate how their proposed study abroad plans fit into their overall educational plans and goals.  For some students, study abroad will be directly related to their major; for others, it will be related to other goals and interests (the minor, developing language proficiency, academic interests outside the major or minor, learning about a different place and culture, etc.).

Based on your discussions with the student, please indicate how study abroad fits in with her overall educational plans and goals: *
Extremely relevant, almost essential.
Somewhat relevant.
Little or no relevance.
No basis to judge.

My assessment is based on: *
At least one substantive conversation with the student.
At least one casual or brief conversation, sufficient for me to recommend the student.
Little or no discussion.

Please add any additional comments that you would like us to take into account in considering this student’s application. You may type your comments directly into the text box below, or copy and paste from a word document. (Optional)

Based on the interactions you have had with this student, please evaluate her on the following characteristics (this information is especially helpful to us in selecting students for our own programs and exchanges): *

Excellent

Good

Average

Poor

Unable to judge

Independence & Initiative

Problem solving skills

Motivation

For students applying for Laurel Fellowships (financial aid) only:

In order to support our goal of funding as many students for study abroad as possible, we expect students to apply for “bolded” programs, meaning programs that we have identified as high quality programs that are competitively priced for their location. If the student is applying to more than one “bolded program,” please indicate whether one of those programs stands out as a particularly good fit for her.

Programs equally appropriate
No basis to judge
