PINE TREE (Project Initiating Employment Through Training in Environmental Enterprises) develops and implements sustainable conservation and safe livelihood practices in northern Luzon, Philippines. Located in Baguio City (about 600 km from Manila), PINE TREE trains young people and farmers on environmental conservation activities and implementing efforts geared towards reducing pollution, soil and water degradation, deforestation and enhancing biodiversity.

The mission of PINE TREE is to fight poverty and environmental decay through social change. To achieve this, it provides information that enables indigenous peoples to implement culturally acceptable, ecologically sustainable, gender-sensitive, and economically viable activities that promote the equitable use, management, conservation, and development of natural resources.

To achieve its mission, PINE TREE conducts research on conservation, agroecology and indigenous knowledge that can empower indigenous peoples to manage and conserve natural resources. PINE TREE is also committed to raising awareness regarding environmental issues among the public and among scientists, researchers, students, development workers and policy-makers.

Responsibilities of Intern:

  • Researching and writing proposals to support fundraising efforts
  • Help collect educational and training materials on environment, sustainable agriculture and forestry.
  • Work on newsletter, pamphlet research, and support development of publications
  • Organize an eco-walk, clean-up walk, river clean-up or training project for a group of environmental volunteers
  • Assist with delivering lectures to students, researchers, and technicians on environmental issues.

The Intern should have background in environmental issues and an interest in supporting the livelihoods of indigenous peoples.
