Laura Trutoiu, '08

I quickly discovered that everyone in the lab -- whether a Ph.D., professor, or research assistant -- had one thing in common: a passion and enthusiasm for research. My summer research abroad was a life-changing and career-defining experience; in fact, I am in the process of making plans for a future collaboration.

Learning Abroad

Immersion in another country and culture offers students a powerful personal and intellectual experience that advances their understanding of global issues, challenges students to study, work, or research in a cultural context different from their own, and pushes students to develop their sense of self in the world.  The College strongly encourages all students to include at least one learning experience abroad in their educational pathway at Mount Holyoke.

The internship, apart from fitting in with my academic and future career interests, gave me a chance to improve my Chinese and fulfilled my dream of living in China.
