Alexandra Williams
Leaping at the Western Wall

WINNER

It is nearly impossible not to be left speechless upon first seeing the Western Wall, otherwise known as HaKotel, in Jerusalem. It was a brutally hot summer day and the stones of the surrounding plaza radiated the heat. Prepared to photograph the city’s enduring anchor, I caught sight of a Haredi (ultra-orthodox) man and his two sons jogging past, set before the gender barrier of the prayer area and al-Aqsa mosque. I never figured out where they were running.
