How to print from personal computers and mobile devices

Overview

Mobility Print is a secure, cloud-based, network print service for Macs and PCs, iPhones and Androids.

LITS has public printers located around campus, which we fondly call “multi-function devices” (MFDs) that can make copies, scan and print. You can easily store or upload your print document to the cloud and then retrieve them from any public MFD by tapping your OneCard.

Follow the installation directions (installation only needs to be done once) to add the LITS-Public-Cloud print queue to YOUR device.

Install Mobility Print

Use the links below to install Mobility Print on your personal device. Note that you must be connected to MHC's eduroam WiFi or VPN to access these links.

How to print with Mobility Print

  1. Make sure you're connected to the campus network on your device.
  2. Open your file on your device.
    • If your file is stored in Google Drive and you're printing from a laptop/desktop computer, we recommend downloading the file and opening it in a different application (Preview, Word, Acrobat Reader, etc) for the best results and most printer setting options.
  3. Select Print.
  4. Select the print queue in the printer destination:
    • LITS-Public-Cloud is for students and community members and prints to public MFDs
    • LITS-FacStaff-Cloud is for faculty and staff and prints to departmental MFDs
  5. Finalize your desired print settings and choose Print.
  6. On some devices, you will be prompted to enter your MHC username and password at this point (others will ask for it during the install process). You can choose to save this information so you don't need to enter it again next time. Be aware that when you change your MHC password it will need to be updated where your computer has saved it in order to continue printing.
  1. A message will appear on your device once the job has successfully been submitted to the print queue saying that it is being held in queue for you.
  2. To release your print job, go to any public printer location, tap and HOLD your MHC Onecard for 5 seconds until the printer screen shows your Print Jobs.
  3. Select the document(s) and choose Print to release.

Gotchas/pitfalls

  • Mobility Print does not work on ChromeOS (Chromebooks)

  • If you get the error "Hold for Authentication" on macOS, follow these instructions to resolve the Hold for Authentication Error

  • For Android devices, check your device settings that printing is enabled.

  • For iPhones, usually the profile that you install will show up as an option on the main settings page, but if it doesn't search profile and choose VPN & Device Management. You'll be able to install the profile there.

  • If you are unable to view the list of printers or nothing happens, check that you are connected to the campus network and restart the app and/or your device.

  • If you still experience a problem, contact the Technology Help Desk

Sometimes, when printing from a Mac, the job appears to pause in the print queue window with the message Hold for Authentication. This error indicates that the credentials that the Mac is providing are being rejected by the print server.
