The "Contents" Button

Syntax: .TOC URL= [Label=] [Target=]

The Contents button belongs to a row of controls that are used for navigating through multi-page documents. Its purpose is to take the reader to a Table of Contents (TOC) for the current document.

Defining the Contents Button's Function

You can specify the behavior of the Contents button with the following command:

.TOC URL= [Label=]

For example:

<!--.TOC URL="contents.shtml"-->

The optional Label parameter allows you to change the name of the button when it appears as text.

The Target parameter creates a link that points to another window or frame. Use a value of _parent to break out of frames, _blank to open a new window with the link, or another name of your choice to refer to a particular window or frame.

In its current implementation, the Document Interface displays the button as a graphic at the top of the page and as text at the bottom of the page.
There is no default behavior for this button. If you do not define it, it will not appear on the page.
Be consistent in your use of the Contents button. If it appears on one page of your document, it should probably appear on all the others, as well.
