Creating Your Own World Wide Web Home Page


Here's how to set up your own WWW home page.

Log in to mhc.mtholyoke.edu.
Obtain a system prompt. System prompts look like this:
mhc.mtholyoke.edu 1%
If you normally see the Welcome Menu when you log into mhc, you should type q and then y to quit from the Welcome Menu and return to the system prompt.
Make your world directory your working directory. mhc.mtholyoke.edu 1% cd ~/world
Create a copy of the file default.htm and call it index.htm. mhc.mtholyoke.edu 2% cp default.htm index.htm
Set the file permissions on index.htm so that other people can read it. mhc.mtholyoke.edu 3% chmod 644 index.htm
Edit the file. mhc.mtholyoke.edu 4% pico index.htm

Making Your Web Page Easier To Find

If you follow the instructions above, people will have to be told how to get to your home page. If you would like to make it easier for users of the MHC Online Information System to find your personal web page, check out the instructions found with the OIS Homepage Directory.
