The directory called world in your home directory
on mhc contains information that is published to the entire
world. This page lists some important points about your world
directory and how it works.
world directory is regarded
officially as public. Computer system file permissions can be manipulated
to prevent the WWW server from serving documents in your world
directory.
CIS reserves the right to, without prior notice and on a regular basis, reset
the permissions on files in the world directory so that files
can be read by others. If your information is not intended to be public,
store it elsewhere.
world directory. CIS maintains
backups to allow recovery from general hardware malfunctions. We do not
restore files from our backups when individual users accidentally remove files.
Although our general backups are designed to be as effective as our technology
permits, no backup system is completely
error-free, and information can still be lost in general system failures. The
safest approach is for you to maintain your own backups of your information.
default.htm.
You can not change the file, but you may remove it if you choose. A much better
way to override the default page is to create your own page called index.htm.
This file will be displayed rather than the default page. Instructions are
available elsewhere.
