This section consists of some general advice. The best way to create buttons or other images that combine both text and graphics is to use Photoshop's Layers feature. For example, if you wanted to create a Home button, you might do something like this:
In this case, the Background layer contains just the blue button, and the Text layer has just the text. Because the text and button are in separate layers, it is much easier to create other buttons with the same background; all you have to do is change the text layer. It's a good idea to save one version of your buttons in Photoshop format so that you can go back and make changes later on, changes that would be a lot more difficult to make to a GIF because it no longer has the layers.
Remember to use RGB mode to create the image, and make sure the
anti-alias box is checked when you enter the text into the
Text Tool dialog. More specific information about
using layers can be found in the Photoshop manual and tutorials.
