Page Elements

The MHC Web design (pre-2006) was developed to allow our visitors to easily navigate MHC Web sites by providing a consistent look and feel throughout our site. The MHC community has the option to embrace the MHC look or to create their own design. Regardless of which design you use, your site should be consistent and easy to navigate, to avoid confusing our visitors. A confused visitor will leave and will not likely return.

Every page does not have to look exactly the same. However, pages that break form from the layout of the rest of your Web pages should identify your department and include your main navigation links at bottom of the page. This enables visitors to navigate your site regardless of where they entered.

Templates should be used to assist in creating consistent pages site-wide. Workshops are available in creating Templates with Dreamweaver.

For more specifics on establishing navigation for your site, see the Navigation section of this guide.

If you are not using the MHC Web design, create a design that uses a theme or color(s) that can be used throughout your Web site to visually tell your visitor they are still on your site. Use a color from the home page image or banner and incorporate the color into the navigation buttons. For more Web design ideas, review other sites that are similar to the site you are building, as well as sites that are completely different. Let your imagination guide you to create an interesting looking site. Use templates to build a basic Web site and later go back to make enhancements site-wide by changing the template.
