MHC Fonts on the Web
The College fonts are not Web-safe - do not use them in the (HTML)
text areas of your Web pages. The College fonts were designed to
be used for print only. They can be used in Web images, such as
the title banner.
Except for headings, we suggest using the default font in text
areas. The palette of font options on Web browsers is limited. Most
browsers use 12 point Times Roman as the default font, although
users have the option to change the preferences to whatever is available
on their systems. However, you should never assume that because
you have a particular font, that the average user also does. Common
fonts include: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif, Times Roman and Verdana.
Considerations for Font Options
- Avoid overuse of bold
- Underlined text generally means the text is a hyperlink; avoid
underlined text to avoid confusing your visitors.
- Italic text is difficult to read on the screen.
- Upper case words should be used sparingly, as it is equivalent
to shouting. It is also difficult on the eyes to read on the screen.
- It is usually not a good idea to force text to a particular
point size. Use relative sizes like "2" and "+1"
instead.
- Refer to the example below for MHC suggested fonts using Cascading
Style Sheets (CSS):
