Library Resources Abroad
ella
ella will work from off campus just as it does on campus. In addition to using ella to access course sites, you can use your "My Workspace" Resources tool for file storage and bookmarks, and your "My Workspace" Wiki to organize notes, links, and information.
To log in, to to the Mount Holyoke home page --> Login --> ella OR begin at ella.
Links from ella to subscription databases may require an additional login (see database access below).
Help documents for self-guided training and an ella FAQ (pdf) are available or contact a reference librarian (see reference support below).
Mount Holyoke Library Subscription Databases
Most library database allow you to login and gain access via proxy. Link to databases from the LITS E-Resources A to Z page and login using your regular Mount Holyoke username and password (same as email) when prompted. More information at Accessing Databases Remotely (from off-campus). Five College students registered for Mount Holyoke courses may need to obtain one-semester guest accounts.
A couple of great library subscription databases to use while you're abroad:
- Gale Virtul Reference Library, which has Countries and Their Cultures, an encyclopedia under the Nation and World category that focuses on cultures and countries around the world, specifically what is and is not shared culturally by the people who live in a particular country. Entries contain descriptive summaries of the country in question, including demographic, historical, cultural, economic, religious, and political information.
- Oxford Reference Online collection, which has Bilingual Dictionaries. (Also don't forget about the resources available at the Language Resource Center, including the Audio Online Collection).
RefWorks
Refworks can be accessed from off campus, however you will need to be ON CAMPUS when you first create your Refworks account. Once you have created your account, to logon from off campus go to Refworks.com/refworks as usual, then click on "Login using your Group Code". Enter Mount Holyoke's group code [RWMtHolyC], then login to your personal account and use RefWorks as you would on campus.
Reference Support
Even though you are off campus, you still have access to research help from Mount Holyoke librarians. Reach a reference librarian via instant message using AIM, ICQ, MSN or Yahoo. During regularly staffed reference hours, you can reach a librarian by contacting the username "litsresearch". You can also receive help over email. Send a message to all of RIS (Research and Instructional Support) by emailing ris-d@mtholyoke.edu, OR email the library liaison specialist in a particular subject area. Find liaisons by department and use the webform to send a message or you may use the Ask LITS form.
