Health Abroad

CDC Traveler's Health: U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's information for travelers, including a Travelers' Health Kit, travel health information for specific countries with a list of the vaccinations needed for countries, information on Safe Food and Water, information for Travelers' with Disabilities, and much more.

Mount Holyoke College Health Services Traveler's Health Information: Find information on preparing for your trip abroad with services from the Pattie Groves Health Center, such as, refills of prescriptions for your regular medications and travel immunization services. 

WHO International Travel and Health: World Health Organization's publication with tips and information for international travelers.

Healthfinder: From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the site provides a variety of health information, including an encyclopedia of over 1,600 health topics from government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and universities.

Medline Plus: From the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the U.S. National Institutes of Health, the site provides information on over 750 health topics, interactive tutorials, a medical encyclopedia and dictionary, and information about prescription drugs and over-the-counter medicines, herbs and supplements.

Safety Abroad

U.S. Department of State Information:

  • How to Have a Safe Trip Abroad: Information on what to pack, what to find out before you leave, precautions to take while traveling, and how to get assistance abroad.
  • Travel Registration: A free service provided by the U.S. Government to U.S. citizens who are traveling to, or living in, a foreign country. Registration allows you to record information about your upcoming trip abroad that the Department of State can use to assist you in case of an emergency. Americans residing abroad can also get routine information from the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
  • Country Specific Information: Includes such information as location of the U.S. embassy or consulate in the subject country, unusual immigration practices, health conditions, minor political disturbances, unusual currency and entry regulations, crime and security information, and drug penalties.
  • Travel Warnings: Issued to describe long-term, protracted conditions that make a country dangerous or unstable.  A Travel Warning is also issued when the U.S. Government's ability to assist American citizens is constrained due to the closure of an embassy or consulate or because of a drawdown of its staff.
  • Travel Alerts: Issued to disseminate information about short-term conditions, generally within a particular country, that pose imminent risks to the security of U.S. citizens.

Rainbow SIG U.S. Students Abroad: From NAFSA: Assocation of International Educators Rainbow Special Interest Group (SIG) information and resources for study abroad students who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered.

SAFETI Clearinghouse: Resources on a variety of safety topics, such as, the articlePersonal Safety Overseas.

Women Travel Portal: Articles on safety for women travelers from Transitions Abroad.
