"The official record of the proceedings and debates of the U.S. Congress. It is published daily when Congress is in session. At the back of each daily issue is the "Daily Digest," which summarizes the day's floor and committee activities and serves as a table of contents for each issue. The House and Senate sections contain proceedings for the separate chambers of Congress. Finally, the Extension of Remarks includes tributes, statements, and other information that supplements statements made on the Congressional floor." Center for Research Libraries

CIA Electronic Reading Room
Database containing hundreds of intelligence reports, including many National Intelligence Estimates and other publications produced by the National Intelligence Council or its predecessor organizations, the Office of National Estimates and the Office of Reports and Estimates since 1946. The database consists of documents, once classified, that have been released to the public either partially or in their entirety under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

The FBI Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Reading Room provides access to thousands of pages (many in electronic format) of frequently requested FBI documents that have been released under the provisions of FOIA.

U.S. Congressional Serial Set (1817-1975)
Contains the House and Senate Documents and the House and Senate Reports. The reports are usually from congressional committees dealing with proposed legislation and issues under investigation. The documents include all other papers ordered printed by the House or Senate. Documents cover a wide variety of topics and may include reports of executive departments and independent organizations, reports of special investigations made for Congress, and annual reports of non-governmental organizations. Classification System
Federal government publications have a separate classification system called Superintendent of Documents (SuDocs). Publications are grouped together by the issuing agency (i.e. Congressional publications are in X and Y). Federal Depository Libraries

Information about the UMass Amherst Federal Depository Library Collection
There are 1,250 federal government depository libraries throughout the United States. Since 1813, as part of the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP), "libraries have safeguarded the public's right to know by collecting, organizing, maintaining, preserving, and assisting users with information from the Federal Government." Every state has selective depositories (meaning they receive a percentage of government publications) and a regional depository library (meaning they receive all government publications). UMass Amherst is a selective depository library and Boston Public Library is the regional depository for the state.
UMass Amherst Government Documents Collection Description: the library receives, processes, and maintains government publications in physical or electronic format that are distributed through the federal depository library program (FDLP) and the Massachusetts state depository library program. Extensive historical collections are available in subject areas such as, agriculture, census, education, labor, congressional hearings, annual reports of state agencies, and legislative documents of the Massachusetts General Court.
