LITS Mission Statement
LITS facilitates the creative use of information and technology for Mount Holyoke College community. It supports the educational priorities of the College by providing instruction, materials, staff expertise and equipment to sustain learning, teaching, research and the College's administrative functions.
Principles:
- Our mission will reflect the mission and goals of the College.
- LITS staff will be highly trained and service oriented.
- We will seek innovative solutions and keep ourselves informed about technological. developments and when appropriate introduce them to the College.
- Support of faculty teaching and student learning is central to our mission.
- We will support both academic and administrative computing.
- We will develop, maintain and provide access to a wide variety of print, multimedia and electronic resources.
- We will work in cooperation within LITS and with other campus departments, organizations, and committees.
Goals:
- We will strive to provide outstanding service to students, faculty and staff. We will work with the community to define "outstanding service".
- We will help students, faculty and staff learn how to find, use, manage and develop information.
- We will acquire and maintain print and non-print collections that support the curriculum and intellectual excellence of the College.
- Recognizing that we cannot support all computing platforms and software, we will work continuously with faculty, staff and students to determine what we will and can support and we will keep a running list of supported platforms and software available on the Online Information Center.
- We will respond in a timely manner to formal requests for service. Channels for submitting requests will be well-publicized and the request process will be simple to navigate.
- We will support computing troubleshooters in academic and administrative departments with appropriate training and consultation.
- We will plan and operate public computer labs and the Language Resource Center.
- We will provide consultation for specialized labs operated by academic departments.
- We will design and maintain scientific instrumentation.
- We will, so far as funds permit, provide upgrades to office computers for faculty and staff on a regular replacement cycle.
- We will provide campus-wide access to electronic information and research resources including the Five College Library Catalog, indices, databases and the Internet.
- We will continue to do everything possible to ensure that community-wide essential services such as electronic mail, campus news groups, the Online Information System, file and print sharing, and administrative data systems are accessible and secure at all times.
- We will design and maintain an information infrastructure that is well-documented and easy to use.
