Borrowing and Interlibrary Loan

Any member of the Mount Holyoke College community has library borrowing privileges. A valid MHC All-Campus ID Card or Five College ID is required to borrow items. Students, faculty, staff, local citizens of South Hadley, and Five College students, faculty and staff all may borrow from the MHC library.

  • For the Mount Holyoke community your MHC All-Campus ID card is your library card.
  • For the Five College community your active college issued ID is your library card.
  • Citizens of South Hadley age 18 and over will be issued a MHC library barcode at the circulation desk.

The loan periods vary according to both the type of materials borrowed and the patron's status.  Each library user has access to their own records through the library catalog's "My Account" feature.

MHC community members are also able to obtain materials that are not available here in our library.  You may request books from the other five colleges through the Five College Borrowing service, which is a function ("Request Item") within the Library Catalog.  You can also request books - or journal articles - through the larger Interlibrary Loan system known as ILLiad.

For more information on borrowing, contact the Circulation Department  413-538-2230
