Access Services

LITS Annual Report 2004-2005

Circulation
During the year the Circulation Department has tried to become more efficient by making some changes, which are listed below.

  • Started a new training program for our Student Assistants which focuses on customer service and professionalism.
  • In January 2005 the Circulation staff work area was renovated to create a more open work environment. This reorganized the area to make it more efficient and provide better customer service.
  • In February the late fees for overdue films and reserve items was increased due to the increased demand for these items. The Reserve fines increased from .50 an hour to $1.00 an hour. The Leisure films increased from .50 a day to $1.00 a day and the regular film collection increased from $1.00 a day to $5.00 a day.

Five College consortium- Our collaboration between the Five College libraries continues to be a great resource to our patrons. During the year we circulated items to our consortia partners:

Leisure Collection - In response to the continual requests from the students and staff we have increased the Leisure film collection this year to include 323 DVDs and 88 VHS films. This entire collection continues to be popular with the Mount Holyoke community.

ILL
During the Fall 2003 we introduced a new software called ILLiad to managing our interlibrary loan requests. ILLiad allows the user to log on and make requests rapidly and to track the status of the request.

Reserves
We continue to provide both print and electronic reserves for our patrons. During 2004 – 2005 we scanned materials for electronic reserves in support of courses, an increase of over the previous year.

During the year members of Access Services staff were involved in the following activities:

  • Five College Circulation Committee

  • Student Employment meetings
  • Ex-Libris Training
  • ALA Midwinter - Boston, MA
  • ILLiad training
  • Site visits to Wesleyan College and Trinity College
  • Five College Conferences such as, Giving and Receiving Useful Feedback, Emerging Technologies & Information Gathering,
  • Other Training seminars include: NERCOMP, Improving Library Customer Service, and Conflict Management
