Access Services
LITS Annual Report 2003-2004
Circulation During the year the Circulation Department has tried to become more efficient by making some changes, which are listed below.
-
Relocating the video collection closer to the service desk
-
Working with architects and Facilities Management staff to design a renovation of the staff work area.

Revise the process for reshelving recently return books
-
Tighten loan limits on films and audio books from the Leisure Collection due to increased demand.

Shift the PQs from level 6W to 5W to allow for growth.

Major shift in the bound Science Periodicals to allow for growth
-
Reallocation of staff assignments during summer to focus on processing electronic reserves due an increase of 500% over Fall 2003
-
Add an additional 10 laptops to the circulating pool for a total of 20.

Revise the process for obtaining digital cameras and 3 day loan laptops, now circulating on a first-come, first-served basis

Booked media equipment is now picked up at the Circulation Desk whenever the Library is open

Reallocate staff hours from shelving to more administrative duties such as billing support

Student workers – Created a new training program, hired 2 student supervisors in Fall 2003 and 2 more in Spring 2004
Five College consortium- Our collaboration between the Five College libraries continues to be a great resource to our patrons. During the year we circulated 20,438 items to our consortia partners, an increase of .05 %.

Leisure Collection - In response from a request by the Student Government Association we added videos and dvds to our collection. This entire collection continues to be popular with the Mount Holyoke community.

ILL During the Fall 2003 we introduced a new software called ILLiad to managing our interlibrary loan requests. ILLiad allows the user to log on and make requests rapidly and to track the status of the request.

Reserves We continue to provide both print and electronic reserves for our patrons. During 2003 – 2004 we scanned materials for electronic reserves in support of 54 courses, an increase of 7 % over the previous year.

Staffing
Suzanne Tiranno joined us as a part time Evening Supervisor working 4 pm – 12 midnight on Friday and Saturday evenings during the academic year.
