Accessing Email
Your email is stored on MHC's servers and can be accessed either on or off-campus. There are several methods available for you to access email.

Forwarding Email

Setting a forwarding address causes all e-mail addressed to you to be redirected to another mailbox.
In order to avoid loss of messages, it is important that the forwarding address be valid and capable of accepting e-mail.

Follow these steps to setup forwarding:

  • Log into Horde (also known as Webmail)
  • Select "Webshell" in the upper right hand corner
  • "Email Forwarding" will be located in the list of options on the left hand side, select that option
  • It will bring up page that will allow the user to put in the email address/addresses that they would like to have their MHC email forwarded too
  • Click the button to "Save Changes and Turn On Forwarding.
  • Once this is done your email will go to the email address/addresses that were chosen

NOTE:  If you want to turn forwarding off, just follow the above steps to log back into Horde and turn the function off.

Vacation/Out of Office Message

Setting an autoreply message causes an e-mail message you design to be automatically sent back to anyone who writes to you. This is often used to inform senders when you are unable to answer e-mail for a while, such as when you are on vacation.
The vacation program attempts to determine if it has recently sent an autoreply message from you to the sender, and usually will not send another.
Autoreply relies upon a file called .forward in the HOME directory of your computer account. This same file is used for e-mail forwarding.

Follow these steps to turn on a Vacation/Out of Office Message:

  • Log into Horde (also known as Webmail)
  • Select "Webshell" in the upper right hand corner
  • "Email Vacation Message" will be located on the list on the left hand side, select that option
  • A section will appear where the user can put in the message they want everyone that sends an email while they are out.
  • Click the button to "Save Changes and Turn on Vacation Message

NOTE: Once you return, follow the above steps to log back into Horde and turn the message off.

Mozilla Thunderbird is the recommended and supported program.
Click here to view the insallation instructions, or please contact the helpdesk where we would be happy to walk you through the process.

Caution: File attachments and embedded links within email are common causes of computer virus infections. Be sure to scan all files before opening them and do not save/download file attachments that you were not expecting to receive - even if you know the sender
