- ADS, The NASA Astrophysics Data System (ADS) (Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics)
- a free World Wide Web data service with abstracts in three subject areas: 1) Astronomy & Astrophysics, 2) Space Instrumentation, and 3) Physics and Geophysics. Abstracts are from journals, proceedings, symposia, Ph.D. theses, and internal NASA reports.
- ADS abstracts can be searched by author, object name (astrophysics only), title, or abstract text words with links to scanned full-text images of articles from Astrophysical Journal, Astrophysical Journal Letters, Astronomical Journal, and Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. There are hyperlinks to data archives, SIMBAD, and electronic publications. The link to current electronic publications is especially useful because ADS cannot include full-text articles from the current year.
- NASA Technical Reports Server: searchable index to NASA's Scientific and Technical Information databases, including the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) Collection, the NASA Collection, and the NASA Image eXchange (NIX) Collection.
- The SIMBAD astronomical database: Research literature and data indexed by object names. You will need to register. Contact Tom Dennis (tdennis@mtholyoke.edu) if you need help.
- Web of Science: a major web-based service covering 5,700 journals in science and over 2,000 in other disciplines. Special feature: search by cited reference (to find newer papers that refer to an earlier known work).
- General Science Abstracts: a database containing materials from more than 265 titles, including major journals and major popular science magazines.
