The Information Commons and Diagnostic Center
This is a walk-in service for students. Computing help is available daily from 10 a.m. until 2 hours before the Information Commons closes. (See Hours). Students are asked to remain with their computer for the first hour of diagnostics and must sign a waiver form before work is begun. A power cord is required – no work will be done on a computer running on battery.
You may stop by the Information Commons on the 4th floor of the Library for any of these following problems:
- Help with computer registrations
- Basic network connection troubleshooting
- Anti-virus software installs, removals and updates
- Virus scans and virus cleaning
- Spybot installs and updates
- Spyware removal
- Windows updates
Or, if you have a more complex problem, professional help is available Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm by appointment only. These services include:
- File recovery
- Including files from computers that will not boot
- System restores
- Quarantined computers
- Hacked computers
- Any non-hardware problem that can not be resolved by Tier 1 support (listed above)
Appointments may be scheduled by having the student contact the Manager of Lab Operations. The student at the Student Computing Help Desk may also schedule appointments.
Computers dropped off before 10am are usually complete the same day. The Student Computing Help Desk cannot guarantee that a computer will be completed the same day if dropped off after 10am.
Note: We do not work on any peripherals including printers, scanners, and cameras. The only possible exceptions to this rule would be external CD/DVD drives and network cards.
