Installing Virex for Mac OSX
- In the Finder, go to the “Go” menu up the top of the screen, and select “Connect to Server”
- In the Connect to Server window, type macdist.

- When prompted for a username, select guest and then click the connect button
- With “Anti-virus” highlighted, click OK.
- On your desktop, you should see an anti-virus icon appear after a moment.
A window may also open showing the contents of that drive. If not, then double-click the desktop icon to open this mounted drive
- Double-click the folder "Virex for OSX" to open it
- Drag the Virex 7.7 folder and the HF266423 folder to your desktop from the open window. The files will be copied to your local computer
- When the folder finishes copying, drag the mounted "Anti-Virus" folder to the trash can icon to "eject" the drive, the related windows will also close.
- Open the Virex 7.7 folder that is on your desktop and double click on the file: Virex.pkg
- Agree to the license and accept the default settings
- The installer will ask for an administrator name and password, please enter your username and password that you use for your local computer account
- After the install process finishes, you will be required to restart your computer
- When your computer restarts, you must run a “hot fix” to ensure that your software updates properly. Reopen the Virex 7.7 folder that is on your desktop, open the folder titled HF266423, and double click on the file: HF266423.pkg
- Again, you should accept all default settings and click next/ok when prompted to continue through to the end of the installation
When these steps are complete McAfee Virex will be set for automatic updates and protection.
