Agency History/Biographical note:
Edith Marion Coon was born on March 1, 1889 in Springfield,
Massachusetts, where she attended Springfield High School. She
graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1913, majoring in mathematics
and physics. In 1916 she received a Master's Degree in Mathematics
from Mount Holyoke College. That same year she left to teach at
Women's Christian College in Madras, India. She worked there as a
mathematics teacher and vice-principal until her death on June 1,
1939.
Scope and Content:
The Edith Marion Coon Papers contain letters and other writings
describing Coon's work as a science teacher and administrator at
Women's Christian College, Madras, and her travels and experiences in
India. Also includes biographical materials and photographs.
