Agency History/Biographical note:
Mary Isabella Ward was born on Septemebr 19, 1874 in Brookline, Massachusetts, to Langdon and Laura Bliss Ward. She graduated from Newton High School and went on to Mount Holyoke College, from where she received her B.A. in 1897. She taught at various schools until 1900 when she became a missionary in Marsovan, Turkey. She returned to the United States in 1944 when she retired. She died on November 16, 1961 in Medfield, Massachusetts.

Scope and Content:
The Mary Isabella Ward Correspondence contain typescript and manuscript letters written to her family, chiefly 1923-1932, offer detailed account of her life in Turkey, her work in American schools in Bursa and Merzifon, and the activities of other teachers and missionaries.
