Description:
Includes letters written between Mary and her
parents as well as some to her friends, and to
her ex-husband, Bob. In the Mount Holyoke
correspondence there is an extensive amount of
information about academics including teacher
comments, assignments, papers, grades reported in
detail. Also, there is vivid detail about social
life of the time and a reference to having a
posture picture taken as well as the grades she
received for the picture. Mary comments on her
work on campus at the Alumnae Office, the
Admissions Office, and Lost and Found. There is
brief correspondence during her time in Iowa
City, mainly focusing on her living arrangements,
her job, and the young men she dated.
Correspondence from Boston tells of her jobs at
Harvard University and Student Employment Office
and at the Ritz Carlton Hotel as well as her
responsibilities at each place. Mary continued to
write about the men in her life. During the years
1951-1958, after Mary graduated from Mount
Holyoke, there is an enormous amount of
information about the social life of young
college graduates, about the ways of trying to
meet young men and the ways in which young
couples entertained themselves in the 1950's.
After this time, there are a few letters from her
friends, mostly about their lives, and from her
ex-husband Bob, mostly about their children.
Undated correspondence at the end is in rough
chronological order, but exact dates could not be
determined.

folders contain notes, papers, and exams, while
the other folders may only contain notes,
sections of notes or papers.
