Agency History/Biographical note:
Mary Caroline Ward was born ca. 1835. She was a Mount Holyoke Female
Seminary non-graduate of the class of 1855. Her sister Emily Ward,
also attended Mount Holyoke (x-Class of 1856). After leaving the
Seminary, Ward taught in Elizabeth, New Jersey, New York City and
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She also did editorial work.
Scope and Content:
The Mary Caroline Ward Papers include 8 letters (dated March 1852 -
July 1853) written by Ward to her parents while she was a student at
Mount Holyoke Female Seminary. One letter (March, 1852) includes a
note written by Ward's sister, Emily Ward (x-Class of 1856)
concerning her own illnesses. Ward's letters generally regard life,
illnesses and money matters at the Seminary. Also included in the
collection are: an Alumnae Association sheet from 1915 and notes from
Elizabeth Ward Trowbridge (Class of 1928) regarding Ward's lettrs.
