Description:
This series contains an extensive selection of Lydia Sessions Woodworth's compositions, including dated compositions written between 1847 and 1856, and undated compositions which appear to have been written between 1853 and 1856. The compositions cover a rage of topics including; "Fame," "Ingratitude," "The Importance of Learning to Compose," "The Morning Hours of Cheerful light," "Which Produces Greater Happiness the Pleasurs of Hope or Memory," "The Indians," "Change is Written on the Tide," "Sympathy," "Light," "A Morning Walk," "The Religious Belief of the Indian," "Labor," "Emily Jackson," "The Diamond," "Scenes from the Destruction of Palestine," "Revolution of 1688," "Fidelimous Mons Vita," "Review of the 'Literary Age of Elizabeth,'" "A Ride," "Vacation," "Which Is More Profitable, the Study of Nature or of Mankind," "The Connecticut Valley," "All Earth is a Shadow, All Beyond is Substance" and, "Sons of Abraham." The majority of the Compositions are three to four pages long.

This series contains the handwritten constitution of the class of 1856, with an attached list of class officers. The series also contains several round-robin letters circulated among members of the class of 1856, and a small blue cardboard H, inscribed "Holyoke Alumnae March 22nd, 1902."
