Agency History/Biographical note:
Sarah Elizabeth Arny, daughter of Henry Vinecomb Arny of Montclair, New Jersey, came to Mount Holyoke College in September, 1924. She graduated in 1928 and on July 20, 1935, she married Harold Alan Holmes.

Scope and Content:
There are twenty letters in this collection dating from September 18, 1924 to March 4, 1928. Eleven of them are from Holmes's freshman year at Mount Holyoke College. She wrote in detail to her family in Montclair, New Jersey, about her experiences as a student at Mount Holyoke College. The letters include descriptions of traditions such as Big Sisters, freshman hazing, Mountain Day celebrations, Junior Prom, and Faculty Show. The letters also describe parties, picnics, trips off campus, lectures, and conferences with faculty members Ralph Boas and Florence Purington.
