Historical Sketch:
The Bicentennial Committee was formed in 1974 at Mount Holyoke College
to celebrate the nation's founding. Mount Holyoke planned several
events, during a sixteen week period, involving college students,
faculty, and town people. Festivities included an exhibit in the
Art Museum, concerts highlighting American composers, and a ball
held in Chapin Hall.
Description of Records:
The records include correspondence, newspaper clippings, memos,
minutes and agendas, a program from the Liberty Tree Ball, and a
pamphlet advertising a symposium on the Beecher family. Information
on both town and college events planned for the sixteen month bicentennial
celebration is included.
