Historical Sketch:
The Committee to Discuss Four College Cooperation at the Graduate Level was appointed to investigate the possibility of offering a combined Ph.D. program at University of Massachusetts, Mount Holyoke College, Amherst College, and Smith College. The Committee recommended that such a program be established, with faculty participating on a voluntary basis.

Description of Records:
The records contain a calendar for each of the four colleges, and a report by the Committee which recommends that a program be established. The report also outlines the requirements for a Ph.D. under University of Massachusetts regulations.
