The Science Group was composed of faculty members from the Anthropology,
Astronomy, Botany, Chemistry, Geology and Geography, Mathematics,
Physics, Physiology, and Zoology Departments. The Group defined
the entrance requirements in the sciences for the College, and evaluated
high school courses to determine whether students should be given
college credit for work done in high school. The Group also discussed
premedical requirements and surveyed a variety of medical schools.
They then listed a group of core courses that all interested students
should take. Before applying to medical school.
Description of Records:
The records contain a list of members of the Group, minutes, correspondence,
a list of requirements for admission to medical school, and a syllabus
for an orientation course in science. Both in minutes and correspondence
contain information on allowing high school courses count for advanced
standing, and for admission requirements. Toledo High School, Nutley
High School, and Rutherford High School are all mentioned concerning
their science courses. Additionally, information concerning application
to medical school with lists of requirements from a variety of well-established
medical schools is included.
