Historical Sketch:
The Student Affairs Committee was appointed by the Board of Trustees
in 1968 as an ad hoc committee to revise the alcohol and male visitor
policies. The Committee was composed of the President, two administrators,
two trustees, two teaching faculty members, and six students chosen
by the Student Government Association. In 1969 the Committee became
a permanent faculty-student committee with no Trustee members.
Description of Records:
The records contain reports by the Committee, a resolution passed
by the Board of Trustees (1968), a proposal for changes in student
nonacademic rules (1970), newspaper clippings, correspondence, minutes,
recommendations, minutes from various Committee on Religion and
Student Life meetings, excerpts from the Faculty Handbook, proposed
changes in the By-laws of the Trustees and the Faculty Handbook,
and off campus living proposals. Information concerning revised
alcoholic beverage policies, dorm key regulations, dress regulations,
drug use and possession policies, parental hours, and smoking proposals
are all included.
