Historical Sketch:
The Two-Unit Committee was established to oversee the Two-Unit
Plan which was created in 1935. The program was designed to give
exceptional students the opportunity to pursue a desired field of
study at the commencement of college. Students in the Two-Unit Plan
lived together in a separate dormitory, but were otherwise members
of the College community. The Committee monitored student progress,
arranged their housing, and acted as advisors for enrolled students.
Description of Records:
The records contain reports, memoranda, and a petition. The petition
from students concerns lengthening Thanksgiving recess, and signed
by hundreds of students. Other information includes scholarships
for students enrolled in the program , lists of the distribution
of interests in students, and recommendations for changes in policy.
