Historical Sketch:
The Winter Term/January Program was established in 1970 to discuss
the possibility of having a Winter Term at Mount Holyoke. The first
Winter
Term was held in 1972 and was designed to give students the opportunity
to study areas not in the traditional academic curriculum. Students
were required to enroll for two of their four undergraduate years.
In 1987 the requirements for participation were dropped and it was
renamed January Program. The Committee approved courses and reviewed
evaluations from students.
Description of Records:
The records contain minutes, agenda, reports, correspondence, evaluations
(1976-), course proposals, and detailed financial records. Information
concerning the establishment of Winter Term is included, with the
opinions of many faculty members. Alumnae Courses, Career Explorations,
and Exchange programs are described, with information on their foundation
and evaluations from students. Scheduling of courses and special
events, and statistics on student participation is also included.
