Record Group Number: RG 16.3.143

16 boxes (6.3 linear feet)

Historical Sketch:
The Winter Term/January Program was established in 1970 to discuss the possibility of having a Winter Term at Mount Holyoke. The first Winter Term was held in 1972 and was designed to give students the opportunity to study areas not in the traditional academic curriculum. Students were required to enroll for two of their four undergraduate years. In 1987 the requirements for participation were dropped and it was renamed January Program. The Committee approved courses and reviewed evaluations from students.

Description of Records:
The records contain minutes, agenda, reports, correspondence, evaluations (1976-), course proposals, and detailed financial records. Information concerning the establishment of Winter Term is included, with the opinions of many faculty members. Alumnae Courses, Career Explorations, and Exchange programs are described, with information on their foundation and evaluations from students. Scheduling of courses and special events, and statistics on student participation is also included.
