Staff Organizations

Historical Sketch:
Staff Organizations is an artificial record group that contains records
related to a variety of staff organizations. Some of these organizations
may interrelate or overlap in terms of function or reporting structure.
The organizations include: Men Employees Association, established
ca. 1930's, among whose activities were theatrical and minstrel shows
to raise money for the student scholarship fund; the Employees Social
Committee, established ca. 1970's, this committee sponsors many social
events including staff picnics, trips and participation in South Hadley
town events; Staff Association, established ca. 1989, for "interaction
among staff and a forum for the discussion of issues of common concern,"
the Staff Association's activities related to issues of benefits,
compensation, etc., were taken over by the Human
Resources Advisory Council in October of 1990; and the Operational
Policy Council.
Description of Records:
The staff records include information on various staff organizations.
The records are made up of memos, minutes, agenda, news letters,
flyers and announcements, nomination lists, ballots, news clippings
and photographs. The records partially document the activities of
the following staff organizations: Men Employee's Association, 1934-1935;
Employee's Social Committee, 1976-1987; Staff Association, 1989-1991;
Operational Policy Council, 1994. The records contain information
related to a wide variety of staff activities and concerns ranging
from group social activities to issues surrounding collective bargaining
and benefits. Of particular note are issues of "Staff News and Notes"
(a staff newsletter) covering volumes 1-4, September, 1980-March
1981.
