Agency History/Biographical note:
Joanne V. Creighton was born in Marinette, Wisconsin, and holds
degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Harvard University and
the University of Michigan. A professor of English, she held
teaching and administrative posts at Wayne State University and the
University of North Carolina. From 1990 to 1995 she was professor
of English, served as Provost of the College and became the first
woman Vice President, and, later, Interim President, of Wesleyan
University. In 1996 she assumed the Presidency of Mount Holyoke
College. Much of her scholarly work and teaching has focused on
Margaret Drabble and Joyce Carol Oates.
Scope and Content:
The records of Joanne V. Creighton contain professional information
including correspondence (1996- ) concerning a Staff Council,
Faculty Forum, etc.; writings (1996- ), including her Convocation
address; inauguration materials, consisting of invitations,
programs and clippings; and biographical materials including
clippings and press releases regarding her Presidential
appointment.
