Historical Sketch:
When Mount Holyoke Female Seminary was founded in 1837, the office
of Treasurer to the Board of Trustees and to the Seminary was held
by a Board Member. This changed in 1915 with the appointment of
a College Treasurer who no longer served on the Board. Over the
next seventy years the office and responsibilities of the Treasurer
underwent considerable changes; at different periods, the Treasurer
also held the posts of Business Manager and Comptroller. From 1987-1993
the Office of the Treasurer included both the posts of Treasurer
and Comptroller. The Office of Financial Services emerged in 1994.
It is a merger of Treasurer, Comptroller and Financial Aid, together
with several other financial departments.
