Historical Sketch:
The position of Registrar was established in 1893, as part of the
faculty. From 1938 to 1959,the Registrar was part of the Office
of Administration. In 1959, it became part of the Office of the
Academic Dean. From 1971 to 1975, the Registrar was part of the
Office of the Dean of the Faculty. In 1975, the Office of the Registrar
was established.
Description of Records:
The records of the Office of the Registrar contain a large amount
of general material dated from 1897 to 1990. This consists of guidelines
for registration and registration forms, dates to remember during
the academic year, clarification of grades, numbers and statistics
on faculty and staff members, and recommendations for course selections.
There are also annual reports dated from 1930-31, and 1934 to 1991.
These include comments and statistics on enrollment numbers in courses,
degrees, honors work, independent work, and the Five College Exchange
Program. There is also correspondence dated March 22, 1898. Also
included in the records are entrance exams statistics, course enrollments
and grading sheets, academic records cards (actual and on microfilm)
and January Program registration records.
