Records, 1958-1995
Record Group Number: RG 7.10
3 boxes (2.88 linear feet)
Historical Sketch:
The Office of the Dean of the College Chapel was established in
1958. The Protestant Dean who conducted services, gave student
guidance
and also advised the non-denominational campus organization, was
later joined by a Catholic Chaplain and a Rabbi. In 1991, the
Office
was suspended as part of a move to combat budget deficits. It was
replaced by the Office of the College Chaplains, consisting
of a
full-time Catholic Chaplain and a Rabbi, but with a part-time Protestant
Chaplain who assumed some of the duties formerly performed by
the
Dean. The office has since become the Office of the Dean of Religious
and Spiritual Life.
