Historical Sketch:
The Mount Holyoke Friends of Art was founded in 1931, by Caroline
M. Galt. Its purpose is to "vitalize the artistic life of the college
and to provide for exhibitions of sculpture and painting so necessary
to the development in the students of art appreciation." They also
help provide funds that are necessary for art exhibitions at Mount
Holyoke for the college and the surrounding community.
Description of Records:
The records from Friends of Art contain newspaper clippings, informational
pamphlets, press releases, invitations, and correspondence. There
also Annual Reports from 1931-35, 1938/39, 1941-43, 1945/46, 1947-63,
and 1964-1976. They contain statistics on membership levels, budgets,
exhibits, and the names of new members. The records also contain,
minutes of committee meetings from 1955-1968, membership lists,
and photographs.
