Room Regulations
1. Researchers
must sign a registration form for each visit to the Archives and
Special Collections . Each researcher retains a copy of this form
2. All briefcases,
purses, coats, and other personal articles must be deposited in
the coat area or with an Archives and Spcecial Collections staff
member. The department reserves the right to inspect all research
materials and personal articles before a patron leaves the reading
room. Only paper, pencils, lap top computers and other needed references
or notes may be used in the research area. The staff reserves the
right to restrict the use of typewriters, computers and tape recorders
if they are found to disturb patrons or staff.
3. Researchers
are allowed no food or beverage in the reading room. Smoking is
prohibited.
4. Archival
materials, including photographs, must be handled with care. They
must not be marked or folded and their existing order must be maintained.
If a filing error is suspected, researchers should report the error
to the Archives and Special Collections staff; researchers should
not rearrange any material. Surfaces of photographic prints should
never be touched (gloves will be provided).
5. The Archives
and Special Collections stacks are closed to researchers.
6. Ordinarily,
photocopying of documents is completed by Archives and Special Collections
staff. A researcher may photocopy individual items from the Archives
and Special Collections only with the permission of the Librarian.
When a researcher takes an item from the Archives and Special Collections
to be copied he or she must leave with the Librarian either a Mount
Holyoke College identification card, a drivers license or some other
form of picture identification.
