1870 Library

The original library, built in 1870 by architect Hammitt Billings of Boston, was to the north of the Seminary building, connected to it by a 45-foot corridor. An addition was made to the north side of the building during the years 1886 - 87. It was torn down in 1904, to be replaced by the main reading room of the present library in 1905.
