| "Smithville": Hitchcock House |
|
Hitchcock House, the former Watson property named for Amherst professor Edward Hitchcock, was a children's school from 1940 to 1952. It was one of three houses that made up "Smithville" (1912-13), moved across Morgan Street to make room for the Student-Alumnae Hall and Skinner Hall, and to serve as student housing. Now all three serve as faculty housing. The other two houses that make up "Smithville": Byron Smith and South Cottage. |
