Original Observatory

Built in 1853, the original observatory was located on a knoll slightly north of the Mary Lyon grave. Trees growing near it obscured the view of the sky and necessitated the construction of a new observatory in 1881. The view shown here was taken looking east towards Prospect Hill, with the north wing of the Seminary Building visible to the right,. and Williston Hall to the left.
